CORDLESS LUMINAIRE

Make the Most of Tablespace.

Having observed the excessive table decorations in restaurants and the lack of colors during Scandinavia's recurring dull grey weather, I combined illumination and decoration into a minimalistic solution.

This project is the result of a classroom project light-light,

where we designed luminaires using the same components.

DINING
TROUBLES

And Distracting Ambiance.

Eating-out should be about the experience, not fighting for space on a cluttered table.

When done incorrectly, it becomes hard to connect with others and enjoy the meal.

Mess is inevitable.

INSPIRATION

Colours and Cultures, Lights and Grey Skies.

As a student in Sweden experiencing its long, cold and grey weather, the psychological impact of the lack of vibrant colours and light became apparent.

This led me to draw inspiration from my Indian culture, where we celebrate Diwali, a colourful festival of light.

CRITERIA

Harmonize Light and Space.
  • Wide and glare-free light.

  • Accessible space for décor.

  • Reliable and non-obstructive.

  • Balanced proportions.

The space for décor bridged the gap between nature and electronic design.

Fun-Fact: Given the constraints of a student budget, I used an available glass candle-holder as its base.

ILLUMINATED CANVAS

Light is Only Half the Story.

While exhibiting the prototype at the 2020 Stockholm Furniture Fair, I discovered its appeal extended beyond dining. People wanted to use it for bathing, meditation, and even playing instruments.

I eventually realized that this project's potential lied in bringing individual creativity into a functional luminaire.
