EARTH AND FIRE

A Collection of Terracotta Luminaires.

After a 5-year journey in Sweden, including a design master’s and LED lighting projects during the COVID-19 era, I returned to my homeland, India.

With no prior experience in working with terracotta, a traditional material in Indian design, this project became my rite of passage.

Collaborating with a local potter, I crafted a luminaire collection around fire and the warmth of this material.

LEGACY IN CLAY

An Ode to the Old and New.

The potter, known as "Prajapati" in Pune, is a generational artisan whose family migrated from Uttar Pradesh a generation ago.

His meticulous craftsmanship and traditional methods are truly admirable, with the pieces fired in a kiln that they build manually every time.

A CIRCLE OF LIGHT

Journey to the Roots.

I focused on designs that played with shadows and kept the forms simple to ensure a reliable batch yield from the kiln.

After crafting a hundred pieces, I showcased them at a Diwali exhibit in Kolhapur, my parents' hometown.

This was where I sold my first pieces in India, bringing the project full circle and connecting my design journey with my roots.
